The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville said Thursday the G. Tackaberry and Family Long-Term Care Home in Athens is not ready to welcome residents.
Construction is mostly complete and staff have been working inside the building since November 2025, but final work and provincial approval are still required.
The update follows a report to committee on April 3. Officials said added safety, accessibility and design improvements have increased timelines but will benefit residents and staff.
Work continues with contractors and the Ministry of Long-Term Care to complete inspections and licensing steps. The province requires a full occupancy permit before final checks can begin.
Approval is expected later this spring, followed by a phased move in process. The counties said updates will continue as progress is made.
Officials say the goal is to ensure a safe and smooth transition for future residents once the home opens to the community. No opening date has been confirmed.
