Fleming College and St. Lawrence College are moving ahead with plans to integrate, creating a larger post-secondary institution serving eastern Ontario.
The colleges say the decision comes as the province rolls out a new funding model, pushing schools to find new ways to stay sustainable while expanding access for students.
Glenn Vollebregt, president and CEO of St. Lawrence College, said the integration will help serve more students and better respond to a changing economy. He said the added scale will create more opportunity while building a stronger institution for the future.
Officials describe the move as an “integration of equals,” with both institutions combining strengths to offer more programs, research opportunities and hands-on learning.
There will be no immediate changes to programs, campuses or student supports.
The integration process is now beginning, with planning, consultation and provincial oversight expected before the new institution is finalized.
