The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario received an update on the Kids in the Know program during its April 21 board meeting, highlighting its role in promoting student safety and well-being.
The program, introduced in response to Ontario’s Erin’s Law, has been implemented across all CDSBEO schools since September 2023. Developed by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, it provides age-appropriate personal safety education from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Officials say the program focuses on helping students recognize unsafe situations, identify trusted adults, and understand how to seek help. Delivery has been trauma-informed, led by trained Student Support Workers and Chaplaincy Leaders, with all staff completing mandatory prevention training.
The board also noted strong parent engagement through communications and resources. Beginning next school year, classroom teachers will take a more direct role in delivering the program.
