The Town of Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands are encouraging residents to take steps toward emergency preparedness as part of this year’s “Prepared Together” campaign. The initiative highlights the importance of being ready to respond to unexpected situations, from severe weather to power outages.
Officials are urging households to create an emergency plan that includes communication strategies, meeting locations, and considerations for children, seniors, pets, and other vulnerable family members. Residents are also advised to build an emergency kit with essentials such as water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, and important documents—enough to remain self-sufficient for at least 72 hours.
Staying informed is another key message, with residents encouraged to monitor local news, weather alerts, and municipal updates. The campaign also emphasizes community support, encouraging neighbours to connect and prepare together.
More information and resources are available through Ontario’s Emergency Preparedness Week online.
