As part of Emergency Preparedness Week, Gananoque Fire Service is reminding residents that clearly visible address numbers can make a critical difference during an emergency situation.
Officials say emergency responders rely on house numbers to quickly locate homes when seconds count, and unclear or obstructed addresses can delay emergency care. Residents are encouraged to ensure their civic numbers are easy to read from the road, well-lit at night, and visible in all weather conditions.
The fire service also recommends keeping numbers free from obstructions such as trees, decorations, snow, or ice, while using contrasting colours to help them stand out.
Fire officials are asking residents to take a moment to check whether someone unfamiliar with their property could easily find the address from the street.
The reminder is part of this year’s Emergency Preparedness Week campaign, which encourages people to take simple steps now that could help protect lives during unexpected emergencies.
