Residents travelling to and from Howe Island should expect continued ferry service interruptions as the County-operated ferry dock rehabilitation project progresses.
The next full closure is scheduled from Monday, May 11 at 10 p.m. to Thursday, May 14 at 2 p.m. Additional closures are planned for May 18 to May 21, and May 25 to May 28, with each closure allowing up to 64 hours of work time. Officials say the extended windows help account for weather delays and other unforeseen circumstances, with the possibility of service resuming early if work is completed ahead of schedule.
The project involves rehabilitation work on both the island and mainland ferry docks. During closures, a mainland detour route will be in place and clearly marked. The three-car township ferry will remain in extended operation to maintain access on and off the island.
The island-side parking area is closed for the duration of construction. The project is a coordinated effort between MTO, the contractor, the Township, and County staff, with completion expected by mid-June.
