The Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands has been recognized with a provincial honour for its ongoing support of local heritage preservation.
Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke accepted the 2026 Corporate Award from the Archives Association of Ontario on behalf of Council during a presentation on Friday, May 8. The award recognizes organizations that have demonstrated exceptional support for archives and the archival community.
Officials say the Township was selected in recognition of its multi-year commitment to supporting the Leeds and Thousand Islands Archives and preserving local history.
The Archives Association of Ontario noted the importance of community partnerships in protecting and promoting historical records across the province.
The Township says the recognition reflects its dedication to preserving local heritage for future generations. Officials also say residents can expect an upcoming announcement celebrating the grand opening of the revitalized Escott Hall.
