Residents relying on the Howe Island ferry service are being advised of another extension to the ongoing dock rehabilitation closure.
Officials say the current full closure will now remain in effect until Saturday, May 23 at 6 a.m. Additional time is needed to refine and adjust the operation of the new ramp mechanism installed as part of the project.
The closure previously scheduled from May 25 through May 28 has also been postponed until a future date yet to be announced.
The rehabilitation work involves upgrades to ferry docks on both the island and mainland sides and is still expected to be completed by mid-June.
During closures, the Township’s three-car ferry continues operating with extended service to help residents travel on and off the island. A mainland detour route remains in place, while the island-side parking area stays closed throughout construction.
Officials note further schedule changes may still be required depending on weather and project conditions.
