Residents, businesses and travellers in Seeley’s Bay are being reminded that the Brass Point Bridge will close to all vehicular traffic beginning June 25 as Parks Canada moves forward with a major replacement project.
The work will see both the historic swing bridge and fixed bridge replaced, along with upgrades to the surrounding roadway infrastructure. The closure is expected to remain in place until December 2027, with a detour route available for vehicles throughout construction.
While vehicle traffic will not be permitted, a pedestrian crossing will remain accessible during the project. Parks Canada says navigation for boats will continue during normal operating hours, although passage under the bridge will not be available outside those times.
The project is intended to improve the long-term safety and reliability of this important Rideau Canal crossing. Parks Canada says it is working closely with contractors and emergency services to minimize disruptions and maintain essential services during construction.
Officials are encouraging residents to plan ahead and prepare for the extended closure.

Project Timeline:
Phase 1
Preliminary Work (Spring 2026 – June 24, 2026 – Bridge remains open to vehicular traffic)
Preliminary work will focus on site preparation activities to support the main construction phase. During this phase, the bridge will remain open to vehicular traffic.
Phase 2
Main Construction and Closure (June 25, 2026 – December 2027 – Bridge closed to all vehicular traffic)
The replacement of the bridge structures will require a full closure to all vehicular traffic. A vehicle detour route will be provided. A pedestrian crossing will remain available during construction.
Navigation for watercraft will not be interrupted during hours of operation. Navigation will not be possible under the bridge outside these hours.
Parks Canada continues to coordinate with local service providers, including emergency services, to ensure continuity of service during construction.
