Several dedicated community volunteers were recognized during a Seniors Month celebration hosted by the Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands.
The event brought together residents, community leaders, and local dignitaries to honour seniors who have made significant contributions to the community through volunteer service. Among those recognized were Kay Webster, Wendy Merkley, and Joyce Fleming, whose nomination was accepted by her daughter, Jan Holland.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Ontario Senior of the Year Award to Wilhelmina Lacelle. The award recognizes exceptional dedication and service to the community and is presented annually to an outstanding senior volunteer.
Local officials praised all nominees for their commitment, generosity, and willingness to give back to others. Township representatives noted that senior volunteers play an important role in strengthening local communities and improving the quality of life for residents.
The celebration was held as part of Seniors Month activities recognizing the contributions of older adults throughout Ontario.
