Trustees with the Upper Canada District School Board approved key priorities for the future during their Wednesday (June 10) meeting, including a balanced 2026-27 budget focused on student success, well-being and responsible spending.
The proposed budget includes $473.1 million in revenue and $472.7 million in expenses, resulting in a projected surplus of $400,000. Funding includes $67.6 million for special education, $3.4 million for Indigenous education, $3.1 million for literacy and numeracy supports, and $2.4 million for student safety and well-being.
Trustees also heard that the board plans to invest $92.9 million in capital projects, including the new Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School and an addition at Cambridge Public School.
Chief Executive Officer Ron Ferguson highlighted progress in student achievement, mental health supports and apprenticeship programs, while presenting the 2026-27 Action Plan.
The board also appointed Tara Barton-Maclaren to fill a trustee vacancy until November 2026. Trustees further voted to change regular board meetings from monthly to quarterly beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
