The Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service is launching a new community campaign aimed at raising awareness and support for people living with epilepsy.
Fire officials say the initiative will focus on fundraising for education, research, and family support services. Epilepsy affects more than one in 100 Canadians, yet it remains widely misunderstood, with many families navigating the condition daily with limited resources.
Funds raised through the campaign will help provide seizure-response training, support programs for newly diagnosed individuals, and community-based resources for families managing epilepsy.
Firefighters say the effort reflects the core values of their service, including teamwork, compassion, and community strength. They note that supporting residents goes beyond emergency response and includes standing with people facing ongoing health challenges.
The public is encouraged to take part by donating, sharing the message, or supporting campaign events as firefighters work to turn awareness into meaningful action.
