The Town of Gananoque is moving ahead with a new pilot project that will test flex hours and a potential four-day work week for municipal employees this summer and fall.
Under Mayoral Directive 2026-005, issued by Mayor John Beddows, the trial will run from July 13 to October 2, 2026, following earlier analysis and consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer and town management.
During the trial period, Town Hall public service hours will be adjusted to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with the office closed to the public on Fridays. The Town says the change is intended to evaluate workplace productivity, employee satisfaction, and service delivery.
Staff will track workload patterns, in-person customer activity, and service demand throughout the pilot period. Feedback will also be gathered from employees and managers regarding productivity, work-life balance, and overall effectiveness of the new schedule.
The Town says the initiative is designed to improve staff retention and morale while also assessing whether service accessibility for residents can be maintained or enhanced under the new model. Results from the trial will be reviewed following its completion in October.
