Cataraqui Conservation has issued a Flood Watch for Charleston Lake and a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety for the Gananoque River and other inland lakes and streams following heavy rainfall across the region.
Officials say thunderstorms on June 30 and July 1 dropped significant amounts of rain, including 84 millimetres in the Gananoque River watershed Wednesday afternoon and evening. Water levels and flows have risen rapidly, with the Gananoque River expected to reach levels similar to those experienced during the spring freshet.
Cataraqui Conservation is urging residents to stay away from dams, fast-moving water, and slippery shorelines, particularly near Marble Rock Dam and along Wiltse Creek, where high flows are expected to continue through the weekend and into next week.
While widespread flooding is not anticipated, localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible, especially around Charleston Lake. The advisory remains in effect until July 10 unless updated sooner.
