Environment Canada’s Orange Heat Warning remains in effect for Gananoque and the Thousand Islands as a prolonged heat event continues today.
Daytime highs are expected to reach between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius, while overnight lows near 21 degrees will offer little relief from the heat. Officials say the hottest conditions are expected to persist through today.
Hot and humid air may also contribute to deteriorating air quality, with the Air Quality Health Index potentially approaching the high-risk category.
Residents are being urged to take precautions, including staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak daytime heat, and checking on seniors, people living alone, and other vulnerable individuals.
Health officials warn to watch for signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, and fatigue, and to seek cool shelter and medical attention if needed.
