The pathway over the Gananoque Dam has been closed as Eastern Ontario Power increases water releases following recent heavy rainfall.
Officials say crews are removing a large number of stop logs to manage high water levels after significant precipitation across the region. The increased outflows are expected to continue throughout the weekend and into next week.
Eastern Ontario Power says the action is necessary because Charleston Lake has reached peak elevation, requiring additional water to be released through the Gananoque Dam.
Residents and visitors are urged to avoid the area and respect all barriers and posted signs while work is underway. Fast-moving water and higher-than-normal flows can create dangerous conditions around the dam.
The pathway will remain closed until it is safe to reopen.
