It was another hot night of racing this past Friday night at the Can Am Speedway with the crew from Michael Doxtator Contracting on hand as the night sponsor. A great crowd saw some great racing and also witnessed history on this night.
Hayden Howard set the pace early in the 15 lap Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman with Rhylan Poole and Mike Durham right there with him. Howard steadily pulled away from the field and looked to be well on his way to his first career win as Durham and Poole were locked into a great battle for 2nd. On lap 7 Howard slowed coming down the front stretch allowing Durham to go from 3rd to first as the caution flag flew. Howard would re-fire the car and return to action. On the restart Durham grabbed the lead but Cayden Graham was on the move taking 2nd. Over the final laps Mike Durham pulled away from the field and would march on to his 3rd win of the season. Cayden Graham claimed the runner up spot over Rhylan Poole, Hayden Howard and Jay Reid.
Tiger Chapman was looking to put all the bad luck behind him in the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Cars as he charged to a big lead early in the 20 lap contest, over Guy Gosselin and George Sanford. Chapman was fast on this night nearly building up a 4 second lead, but George Sanford started to move forward taking the runner up spot past the halfway point as Chapman entered lapped traffic. With traffic now a factor, Sanford narrowed the gap and found himself on the back bumper of the race leader with two laps remaining. However this proved to be the end of George Sanford’s bid for the win as he clipped an infield tire in turn two and spun, which brought out the yellow flag. On the final restart Chapman pulled away and put all the bad luck behind him to score his first win of the season and 4th of his Can Am Crate Sprint Car career. Guy Gosselin, Ken Klinkowsky, Kyle Wilson and Rachel Zacharias rounded out the top 5.
It was a historic night in the 25 lap Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modified feature as Andy Howard led the way and had a great side by side battle with four time track champion Tim Fuller for the top spot. A quick yellow flew as Dan Beachard spun on the back stretch but was able to continue. When the green flew again Fuller and Howard continued to battle but Billy Dunn was on the move to join the fight, taking third from Lance Willix. Fuller would gain the lead on lap 5 as Dunn moved to second, setting up a battle between the top two in the points. On lap 14 Dunn took control of the race leaving Tim Fuller to battle Lance Willix for the runner spot and it was intense. Fuller and Willix were close on several occasions with Willix finally getting to the inside lap off turn two with three laps to go. However the two drivers made slight contact sending Willix spinning to the infield, while Fuller was able to save his car and continue on, but the yellow flew. On the final restart Billy Dunn would pull away from the field and roll on to score win number 4 of the year, but more importantly, claim his 74th career Modified win at Can-Am, breaking the tie atop the all time win list with 10 time track champion and Hall of Famer Pat O’Brien. Jackson Gill was able to get to second with Tim Fuller, Cameron Black and Shaun Shaw taking the number 5 spot at the checkers.
Caleb Howard was the early pace setter at the start of the 20 lap Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman feature with Paul DeRuyter and Jessica Power making up the top three spots early on. Power had a fast car and was able to take second from DeRuyter on lap 8, but had some work to do to run down Caleb Howard, who was fast and searching for his first career win. On lap 12 Power was able to run down the leader and use the inside lane off turn four, to take over the top spot as behind them Keegan Nier was on his way to the front, as he also challenged Howard to the number two position, while Power drove away. Nier would grab the runner up spot but still had nearly a straight away to try and run down the race leader with Howard, DeRuyter and Logan Brown making up the top 5. On lap 18, Logan Brown’s great run would end with a flat right rear tire as he slowed to a stop in turn 1 bringing out the yellow. On the final restart Power was able to get the jump she needed to pull away from Keegan Nier and Paul DeRuyter to score her first win of the year and first at Can Am since August of 2025 and 7th overall in her Can Am career. Keegan Nier, Paul DeRuyter Eric Nier and Justin Gadbaw rounded out the top 5. The win was also the second of her career on July 10th, having won on this exact same ate at Can Am, back in the 2015 season.
In the 15 lap Sundance Leisure Thundercar feature Jared Gilson led the way early over Jock Symonds and David Rasmussen. Gilson has finished 2nd twice this year and was looking to grab his first win of the season and end the dominance of Symonds this year. On lap 5 Symonds was able to take the inside lane to the front dropping Gilson back to second, while Francis White was on the move taking the third spot. Two time track champion Tony Frezzo debuted a new car and was running strong, but on lap 7 would slow on the front stretch with problems and the yellow flag flew. On the restart Symonds would pull away again over Gilson and Francis White, with OJ White making his way to the fourth spot. The great run for OJ came to an end after he broke in turn two and the yellow flew again on lap 11. When the green flew for the final time, Jock Symonds would jump out front and pull away from the field yet again to record his 7th win in 8 tries, his 6th in a row and 18th in the Thundercar division at Can Am. Jared Gilson, Francis White, Kyle Whalen and Collin Bauter completed the top 5.
Next week all five divisions return for action and it will be family autograph night so bring the hero cards and pictures to meet your favorite Can Am Speedway driver. Racing begins at 7pm.
