Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Heat Warning for Gananoque and the Thousand Islands region as a stretch of hot and humid weather moves into the area.
The heat event begins today and is expected to continue through Wednesday evening or possibly Thursday evening. Forecast conditions include daytime highs between 30 and 36 degrees Celsius, overnight lows near 20 to 23 degrees, and humidex values reaching 38 to 45.
Tuesday is expected to bring the hottest conditions, with temperatures approaching 36 degrees in some areas. The hot and humid weather may also contribute to declining air quality.
Residents are reminded to take precautions, including drinking plenty of water, limiting strenuous outdoor activity, and checking on seniors, people living alone, and others at higher risk of heat illness. Watch for symptoms including dizziness, nausea, headache, thirst, and fatigue.
