Fans and evening sponsor Tackaberry Construction were treated to a great night of racing at the Brockville Ontario Speedway Saturday night, but also it was a popular night for fans to meet their favourite drivers during driver autograph night. Following the autograph session, it was time for the drivers to get to work and they put on a show for the fans.
First up was the second leg of the Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series for the DIRTCar Sportsman and Jeffrey Lapalme wasted no time grabbing the lead at the start of the 40 lap event, with Matt Barbour right there to challenge. Both drivers had a great side by side battle as Gavin Eisele and Jessica Power were also charging forward making it a 4 car battle for the top spot. Eisele has been on a hot streak at Brockville and would join the battle for the lead with Barbour and Lapalme on lap 15. After a caution for a three car spin in turn 4 the green came back out and Eisele took control of the race as Shane Pecore made his way to the runner up spot. Eisele started to draw away from the field while behind them a great battle for third was taking place between Matt Barbour, Dylan Kirkland and Jessica Power. Lapped cars were no issue for Eisele on this night as Pecore tried his best to keep the leader in sight, but would get some help on lap 35 as the caution flew as Patrick Kudrinko slowed to a stop off turn three. On the final restart Eisele would pull away from Shane Pecore to record his 4th win of the season and first career Ogilvie’s Series win. Shane Pecore crossed in second ahead of Matt Barbour, Dylan Kirkland and Jessica Power.
Kyle Massey was the early leader in the 15 lap Street Stock feature with Brett Horner and Stephane Philippe closing quickly. The top three had a spirited battle as Massey started to pull away from the field by lap 5. On lap 7 Francis Gauthier made his way forward and would take the lead on the inside part of the speedway and drove away to a comfortable lead while Horner, Philippe and Massey had their own battle for a top 5 position. Stephane Philippe would get to second and made a charge to the leader with only three laps remaining. On the final lap heading into turn three, Stephane Philippe gave it one last shot in turn three to catch the leader, but would run out of time as Francis Gauthier would drive to his first win of the year. Stephane Philippe, Kyle Massey, Brett Horner and Thomas Reid rounded out the Top 5.
Next up was the 50 lap Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series race for the DIRTCar 358 Modifieds and Chris Raabe would take advantage of his outside front row starting spot to grab the lead with Johnathon Ferguson and Bobby Herrington completing the early top 3. Raabe had a fast car and was driving away from the rest of the field as Herrington and Ferguson had a great battle for the runner up spot. On lap 14 Chris Ferguson brought out the first yellow, bunching up the field for the restart. When the green flew Raabe continued to fend off Herrington for the top spot as Jarrett Herbison entered into the battle taking third from Ferguson and set his sights on the top two drivers. With 20 laps remaining Raabe once again had a big lead with Herrington and Herbison still in a battle for the runner up spot, however defending track champion Tristan Draper was on the move and making up spots quickly. By lap 32 Draper had worked his way to second and was charging hard after Raabe, who looked well on his way to his second win of the year. With 5 laps to go Draper was within a car length as the two drivers ran different lines at either end of the speedway and put on a great display of driving ability. On the final lap Draper got close to the leader but Chris Raabe had just enough left to hold on for his second win of the year and 4th career Ogilvie’s Series win. Tristan Draper crossed second with Bobby Herrington, Jarrett Herbison and Kyle Dingwall charging from 13th to round out the top 5.
The Mini Stock 15 lap event saw a great battle all race long as Terry McClelland took the top spot away on lap number 5 with opening day winner Mike Saunders closing quickly to challenge. McClelland was strong on this night and was looking to claim his first ever Mini Stock win, but Hayden Brown was doing all he could to keep pace with the leader, moving to second, while Mike Saunders, Jamie Larocque and Charles Marchand were having a great battle for a top 5 position. McClelland had built up over a straight away lead as Brown did all he cold to hold on to the second spot. In the end Terry McClelland put on a driving clinic as he dominated on this night recording an emotional first career Mini Stock win. Hayden Brown, Mike Saunders, Jamie Larocque and Charles Marchand completed the top 5.
Next week the Suprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints return to action along with the Novice Sportsman. Also on the card is the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club featuring the cars of the 50s and 60s plus the cars of the 70s and 80s. Racing gets underway Saturday night beginning at 6pm.
