Community organizations, municipal leaders and Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation representatives gathered Thursday to celebrate the impact of casino revenue in Leeds and the Thousand Islands and Gananoque.
The annual OLG Community Recognition Event highlighted the funding provided through the Municipality Contribution Agreement and recognized local groups that received community grants, including Lyndhurst Events, Arts and Fairs, the Thousand Islands Association, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 504 and the Lansdowne Seniors Group.
Since Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands opened in 2002, both the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands and the Town of Gananoque have each received more than $34 million through the OLG program.
Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke said the funding continues to support local programs, events and volunteer organizations, while Gananoque Mayor John Beddows praised the casino’s long-standing economic impact and community partnership.
OLG representatives also emphasized that casino revenues are reinvested into communities across Ontario, supporting local initiatives, infrastructure and public services.
