Gananoque Police say there has been no conclusive determination of the cause of death following the discovery of a body in the Gananoque River Sunday.
In an update released Wednesday, police said a postmortem examination has been completed, but investigators have not established a definitive cause of death.
Authorities, working alongside the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario, continue to treat the case as non-suspicious.
The identity of the deceased has not been released as officials work through the investigation and next-of-kin notification process.
The body was discovered by members of the public who were paddling near Black Bridge on the morning of July 12.
Gananoque Police, assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police East Region Forensic Identification Unit and the Gananoque Fire Service, recovered the deceased from the water. Police have not indicated when additional information may be released and say the investigation remains ongoing.
