The Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands recognized the dedication of its volunteers during a Volunteer Recognition Gala held Wednesday, July 15 in Lansdowne.
The event, themed “Volunteers Grow Our Community,” celebrated committee members who have served the Township over the past four years. Volunteers from the Committee of Adjustment, Municipal Heritage Committee, Leeds and the Thousand Islands Public Library Board, and the Partnership for Economic Enhancement and Revitalization were recognized for their contributions.
Councillor Brian Mabee, joined by the Town Crier from Gananoque, welcomed guests with a ceremonial cry highlighting the history and importance of volunteerism. The presentation also outlined the economic and social value volunteers provide while recognizing the personal benefits of giving back to the community.
“Our Township is fortunate to have residents who are willing to share their time, passion, and expertise in service to others,” said Mayor Corinna Smith- Gatcke. “Your commitment helps Council make informed decisions and strengthens our community. We sincerely thank each of you.”
As part of the ceremony, members of Council presented each volunteer with a red maple tree to plant. The trees symbolize the lasting impact volunteers have on the Township and the role they play in helping build a stronger, more connected community for future generations.
