Culligan Water was on hand as title sponsor this past Saturday at the Brockville Ontario Speedway with a big show for the Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints, as the Action Sprint Tour was back for their fourth race of the re-birth year plus a full show for all classes and the racing did not disappoint.
In the 15 lap Street Stock feature, two time track champion Brett Horner took the lead early but it did not last long. Bruno Boivin, who last won a race at Brockville nearly a year ago to the day, took over the top spot and started to put on a driving clinic. Horner in the mean time tried to close in on the leader but Francis Gauthier was making his way forward as he looked to make up some valuable points in the track title chase. Over the final laps, nobody was catching Bruno Boivin as he took a fast car and a good engine to his first win of the season. Brett Horner, Francis Gauthier and Thomas Reid completed the field.
The 25 lap Action Sprint Tour feature saw Campbell Baker draw the pole and take the lead at the drop of the green flag with Eric Laurendeau and Al Sleight making up the early top three. Behind them defending track champion Josh Verne Jr. was on the move from 8th, as he climbed to second by lap 8, but still had a long way to go to make up ground on the leader. A pair of yellows slowed the field as Matthew Moore spun off turn 4. One lap later Tucker Donath tried to avoid a spinning Marc Surprenant in turn 2 but both cars collided with 3 other cars involved. Donath and Surprenant were done for the night, but the drivers were ok, with others able to continue. When the green flew it was Baker leading, however Josh Verne Jr. tried several times to get by on the top side and did so on lap 13. Campbell continued to run second with Sleight still in control of third, while Rick Wilson moved to 4th, but that’s when things took a different turn. On lap 19 Wilson lost control of his car off turn 4 sending him around the frontstretch wall, through a gate and nearly hitting the frontstretch grandstands. The race was red flagged, thankfully nobody was near the area at the time and everyone was ok. Wilson was pushed back to the track and able to rejoin the field. After that scare, on the final restart, Josh Verne Jr. was able to drive away unchallenged for his first series win since Can Am in 2023. Campbell Baker crossed in 2nd with Al Sleight, Andrew Hennessy and points leader Liam Martin.
Shane Stearns led the field to green in the 30 lap DIRTCar 358 Modified feature with Kevin Hamel and Lucas Fuller trying to close in. Fuller had a fast car and was able to get by Hamel for the runner up spot, but had a long way to go to catch Stearns, who was well out front and searching for his first career win. On lap 11 Fuller managed to run down the leader and after a great side by side battle, was able to get by and begin to author a dominant performance. Behind the leader Kyle Dingwall was on the move as he ran down Bobby Herrington to take over third. Following that, Dingwall continued to drive to the front as he had a great battle with Shane Stearns for 2nd and would take the spot, but by this time Lucas Fuller was in a class of his own, a straight away ahead of the pack. Over the final laps, Lucas Fuller would continue to dominate the field and on this night, would march on to score his 1st win of the year and second of his career. Kyle Dingwall was second, ahead of Shane Stearns. Bobby Herrington re-took the points lead with a 4th place finish with defending track champion Tristan Draper 5th.
Matt Mould was the story in the 25 lap DIRTCar Sportsman feature as he took the lead at the drop of the green flag with Jordan Wood and Madie Wallace trying to keep pace. Once in front, Mould was running a solid pace and was driving away from the field, but Shane Pecore, Dylan Kirkland and Jessica Power were on the charge to the front of the field. Pecore was able to clear Wallace for 2nd and patiently ran down Matt Mould for the race lead. On lap 13, Mould made one slip in turn 4, allowing Pecore to get by and pull away. Behind the leaders Jessica Power and Dylan Kirkland were on the move, as they got by Mould to move into second and third. Up front Pecore continued to set a fast pace and was well on his way to his second win of the year. In the closing laps Dylan Kirkland would get by Power for 2nd with invader Jacob Nadeau coming from the back and into the top 5. On this night, Shane Pecore would finally get it done, scoring his 2nd win of the year and re-taking the points lead in the process. Kirkland managed to hold on to second while Jacob Nadeau got by Jessica Power for third at the line and Domonick Merkley completed the top 5.
A great battle took place in the 12 lap Novice Sportsman feature between three drivers, who already had a win this season at Brockville. Rhylan Poole led the way and was doing a masterful job holding off Landon Ryan and points leader Garin Thompson. These three drivers put on a great display of driving as they battled hard for the top spot. Poole continued to remain in front and appeared to be on his way to his 2nd win of the year. However on the final lap, Landon Ryan moved to the outside lane and pulled even with Poole into turn 3. Off the turn Landon Ryan would find the momentum and score the win in a thrilling finish, his second in a row. Rhylan Poole settled for 2nd with Garin Thompson, Cody Washer and Shawn Reid completing the top 5.
The night closed out with a 20 lap 4 cylinder slick track enduro, which was a bit of a preview to our Monster Enduro coming up in mid-September. Enduro veteran Patrick Beslile took the lead early and managed to lap the entire 12 car field, on his way to victory lane.
Next week Mobil 1 will be on hand as title sponsor of the night with a full card of racing in all classes including the return of the popular Mini Stock division. The Street Stocks have the night off. Racing begins at 7pm.
