Eastern Ontario Progressive Conservative MPPs are calling for more consultation on the proposed ALTO rail project, saying local concerns need to be addressed before any plans move forward.
In a statement, the Eastern Ontario PC Caucus said major infrastructure projects must reflect the priorities of rural communities, farmers, families and local businesses.
The group said too many questions remain unanswered about ALTO and called on the federal government to ensure any future rail project minimizes impacts on farmland and considers feedback from affected communities.
The statement was issued on behalf of 11 MPPs, including Steve Clark, John Jordan, Tyler Allsopp, George Darouze, Billy Denault, Nolan Quinn, David Piccini, Laurie Scott, Stephane Sarrazin, Ric Bresee and Dave Smith.
The MPPs said they will continue working with municipalities, landowners, farmers and residents on the issue.
