Northern Cross Farms is proving that a small family operation can make a big impact across the region.
Located between Westport and Godfrey, the farm is operated by Ann Madden with plenty of help from her large and energetic family.
Madden raises goats and several other animals while creating a growing collection of farm-made goods. Goat milk and beef tallow are used to produce natural soaps, lotions and other biodegradable products.
The entire family has a role to play, whether it is helping make the products, applying labels or joining Madden at local markets.
Northern Cross Farms has become a multigenerational effort, with younger family members getting an early look at farming, entrepreneurship and the work that goes into running a local business.
Madden says seeing the next generation take an interest makes all the hard work worthwhile.
