Correctional Service Canada says staff vigilance has led to the seizure of more than $800,000 worth of contraband and unauthorized items at Joyceville Institution.
Multiple packages were seized on August 7 at the multi-level security federal institution. The items included tobacco, marijuana, hashish, THC, Jamaican tobacco known as “grabba,” crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, edged weapons and cell phone accessories.
The total estimated institutional value of the seizures is approximately $801,387.
Correctional Service Canada says it uses tools including ion scanners and detector dogs to help prevent drugs and other prohibited items from entering its institutions.
The agency also works with police to address attempts to introduce contraband.
