Gananoque’s Residential Dump Day scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd has been cancelled, as the Town’s Public Works Yard is no longer able to accept waste or compost materials from residents.
The Town says the Public Works Yard at 665 Charles Street North, accessed through James A. Brennan Road, is permanently closed to the public for the disposal of these materials.
According to Public Works Manager David Armstrong, the closure is necessary to ensure the Town complies with environmental regulations established by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.
The Town says the site is not authorized to continue accepting public waste and compost materials, and doing so could result in significant fines and enforcement orders.
Residents are encouraged to continue using the Town’s curbside leaf and yard waste collection and brush collection programs when available.
Materials not accepted through curbside programs must be taken to an appropriate licensed waste management or composting facility outside Gananoque.
The Town acknowledges the closure is frustrating and inconvenient for residents who have relied on the site.
Officials say they are exploring alternative options for disposing of other materials and will provide more information as those options become available.
