The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville will receive more than $11.1 million from the Ontario government this year to support land ambulance services.
Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark announced the $11,118,646 investment alongside United Counties Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke, Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service Chief Jeff Carss and local paramedics.
The funding represents a five per cent increase from the previous year.
The province is also providing $195,000 through its Dedicated Offload Nurses Program. The program helps fund nurses and other eligible health professionals who assist with transferring ambulance patients into hospital emergency departments.
Clark says paramedics play an important role in the local health-care system by responding to emergencies and providing care to people in their homes and communities.
The province says the investments are intended to support land ambulance services and help patients receive emergency care more quickly.
The funding announcement comes as health-care services across Ontario face continued demand for emergency and community-based care.
