A new exhibit opening Thursday, September 3rd at the Gananoque Public Library will celebrate 50 years of shared history between Canada and the United States in the Thousand Islands.
“Between Friends/Entre Amis: 50 Years Along the Border” features photographs of people and places in Gananoque and the Thousand Islands, dating from the 1970s to today. The exhibit builds on a book by author and photographer Lorraine Monk that Canada presented to the United States in 1976 to mark the American Bicentennial.
The opening will feature University of Alberta professor Rob Shields and Susan Smith, author of The First Summer People and editor of Thousand Islands Life.
Doors open at 3 p.m., with the introduction beginning at 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
The exhibit is a partnership between the Gananoque Public Library and the University of Alberta, and runs until November 6th, 2026.
