Members of the Gananoque Fire Service continued their search and rescue training this week, working through a zero-visibility environment.
The exercise challenged firefighters to operate when visibility is reduced to virtually nothing, conditions they could encounter during a real emergency.
In those situations, firefighters must rely on their training, communication, equipment and ability to work together to locate and assist people in need.
The zero-visibility exercises are designed to help crews prepare for the challenges of emergency response while strengthening their teamwork and search and rescue skills.
While the training can be difficult, it provides an important opportunity for firefighters to practice working in conditions where seeing their surroundings may not be possible.
Gananoque Fire Service members were thanked for putting in the time and effort to continually sharpen their skills.
The ongoing training helps keep firefighters prepared and contributes to keeping both crews and the community safer.
