Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Services responded to six emergency incidents over the past week. The calls included multiple grass fires along Highway 401, two medical assistance calls, a vehicle fire, a fire alarm activation and a burn complaint.
The fire service is also preparing for its upcoming Women of Fire event on Saturday, October 3rd, at the Regional Training Centre. Twenty-five participants are registered for the event, which is designed to provide women with an opportunity to learn more about firefighting and some of the skills needed to join the fire service.
The event is part of the department’s efforts to introduce more people to a career as a firefighter and provide hands-on learning opportunities in a training environment.
