An inmate at Joyceville Institution has died while in custody.
The Correctional Service of Canada says 62-year-old Robert Filion died on October 1st at the federal institution in Kingston.
Filion had been serving a three-year sentence and had been in custody since October 24th, 2024.
CSC says the inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
As is required in cases involving the death of an inmate, police and the coroner have been notified.
The Correctional Service of Canada says it will review the circumstances surrounding the death.
No further details about the cause of death or the circumstances leading up to it have been released.
The review is part of CSC’s standard process following the death of an inmate while in federal custody.
