Gananoque Fire Service is reminding residents to take a few simple steps to protect their homes and families from fire.
The department has released a Home Fire Safety Checklist encouraging homeowners to ensure working smoke alarms are installed on every storey and outside sleeping areas, and to test them monthly.
Residents are also urged to maintain carbon monoxide alarms where required and check them regularly.
The checklist highlights the importance of creating and practicing a home escape plan, identifying two exits from each room when possible, and choosing a safe outdoor meeting place.
Fire officials recommend practicing evacuation plans at least twice a year and never re-entering a burning building.
Residents with questions can contact Gananoque Fire Service to arrange a home safety visit.
