Firefighters across the region have wrapped up Fire Prevention Week 2026 after a busy week of community outreach and fire safety education.
Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service crews visited local schools, connecting with students and teaching them about fire safety. The department also partnered with Gananoque Fire Services to remind residents about the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their homes.
Local businesses also helped support the campaign, including Lyndhurst Home Hardware, Gananoque Home Hardware and Gananoque Canadian Tire.
Although Fire Prevention Week has ended, firefighters are reminding residents that fire safety is a year-round responsibility. Residents are encouraged to test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly to help keep their families safe.
