You are being encouraged to play the match game with Lionhearts.
For their Big Hearts Big Impact fundraising campaign, every dollar donated to Lionhearts until November 8 will be matched up to $70,000.
This is due to the generosity of seven donors and organizations: the Estate of Dr. Tony Ashworth, Britton Smith Foundation, Revell Ford & Revell Lincoln, Janet Lee, Kids 4 Kids, the Ritchie Fund, and the Rotary Club of Kingston.
Director of Storytelling and Media Bill Welychka says this is an opportunity for residents to stretch their charitable dollars.
Lionhearts works across Kingston recovering and redistributing food and essential goods while providing programs that support people experiencing food insecurity, homelessness and other significant challenges.
Welychka says many of those who have donated were themselves beneficiaries of Lionhearts.
Lionhearts managed to recover and redistribute around 1.7 million pounds of food and essential goods in 2025 through a network of more than 200 partner agencies and organizations. They also prepared over 81,000 meals through its Kingston Community Kitchen, while its broader work has included more than 5,500 Student Food Boxes and over 11,500 nights of Transitional Housing.
Welychka believes these success stories will encourage people to donate to Lionhearts.
