Frontenac County’s recent decision on July 17th marked a significant policy shift regarding the Howe Island County Ferry.
County Council, responding to a request from the Township of Frontenac Islands, voted to rescind several policies pertaining to heavy vehicles.
Effective July 22nd, all restrictions on heavy trucks during weekends, holidays, and specific agricultural exemptions will be lifted.
Moving forward, access to the ferry will be based solely on a first-come, first-served basis for vehicles weighing under the vessel’s 45-tonne capacity limit.
Operators of heavier or commercial vehicles may need to provide weigh slips before boarding. This change aims to streamline ferry operations and enhance accessibility for all users of the Howe Island County Ferry system.
the following County policies related to the Howe Island County Ferry be rescinded:
MS-12-018 (Weekend & Holiday Heavy Truck Restrictions)
MS-12-019 (Heavy Truck Restrictions)
MS-17-001 (Heavy Vehicle Restricted Periods Agricultural Exemption)
The change will take effect on Monday July 22, 2024 at 12:01 am.
