The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) celebrated the grand opening of Swift Waters Elementary School on September 18th with dignitaries including Minister of Education Jill Dunlop and MPP Steve Clark in attendance. This marks the first public elementary school to open in Brockville since 1973, with construction starting in October 2022.
Swift Waters ES features 17 classrooms, four Kindergarten rooms, a large gym, and outdoor facilities, including six play structures and a soccer field. The school incorporates green initiatives, such as solar panels and electric car charging stations, and will serve as a community hub with three EarlyON rooms for families with young children.
Principal Sarah Stone expressed excitement about the new facility, which opened with 425 enrolled students and a capacity of 504. The school consolidates students from the recently closed Toniata and Commonwealth Public Schools, fostering a vibrant learning environment for the community.
