The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands is inviting all residents to participate in a vital fire safety initiative this August. The Dock-to-Door Program, hosted by Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Services (LTIFS) in partnership with the Thousand Islands Association (TIA), offers hands-on training focused on smoke alarm awareness and portable fire pump operation.
The clinics will be held at the Leeds 1000 Islands Municipal Dock, located at 117 Ivy Lea Road, on Fridays—August 8, 22, and 30—from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Residents will learn about the importance of functioning smoke alarms in homes, cottages, and sleeping areas, along with practical instruction on operating and maintaining portable fire pumps. These pumps are essential tools for protecting remote island and cottage properties, where emergency response times can be longer.
TIA generously donated two portable fire pumps to LTIFS, prompting this public education effort. Attendees are encouraged to carpool due to limited parking and dock space. Photo and interview opportunities will be available. For more information and updates, visit the Township website or follow them on Facebook.
