A Level 1 Burn Ban is now in effect in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands. Under the ban, open-air burning of brush, fireworks, and sky lanterns is strictly prohibited.
However, small campfires are still permitted for cooking or warmth, provided they are closely monitored.
Officials remind residents that fires must be supervised at all times by a competent individual, with proper extinguishing tools kept nearby.
Campfires must also be fully extinguished before being left unattended.
The township urges residents to follow these precautions to help reduce fire risks during the dry conditions.
