The Town of Gananoque is reminding residents that needles, syringes, and other sharps must never be placed in recycling bins.
These items are hazardous and can cause serious injury or potential infections for workers handling recycling.
Proper disposal requires immediately placing sharps into a designated sharps container, which can be obtained from most pharmacies.
Once filled, the container should be returned to the pharmacy for safe disposal.
The Town is urging everyone to follow this practice to protect staff, the public, and the environment while ensuring the recycling stream remains safe and uncontaminated.
