The Gananoque and District Humane Society (GDHS) has temporarily stopped accepting new cats after reaching full capacity. The organization says it must focus on finding homes and foster placements for the many cats already in its care.
Shelter volunteers say the decision was difficult but necessary to make sure every cat currently housed receives proper attention, food and medical support. GDHS is asking for the public’s help through adoptions, fostering and spreading the word to ease overcrowding.
While new intakes are on hold, the humane society is still keeping a waitlist for people needing to rehome cats or who have found animals in need. Staff will contact those on the list as space becomes available.
The shelter thanked the community for its patience and continued support, noting that every adoption, foster and donation helps make room for the next cat in need.
