As part of Crime Prevention Week, the Gananoque Police Service is reminding residents that while Gananoque is generally a safe community, thefts can occur and are often crimes of opportunity. Simple precautions can help protect homes, vehicles, and personal belongings.
Officers recommend always locking doors to homes, garages, sheds, and vehicles, even for short periods. Valuables like wallets, phones, and shopping bags should never be left visible in cars. Motion-sensor lights or porch lights can act as deterrents, and keys or key fobs should be kept away from doors and windows to prevent theft via signal boosters.
Community engagement is also vital—getting to know your neighbours and watching out for one another helps keep everyone safe. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the police.
