Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Gananoque and surrounding communities as snow is expected throughout the day. Forecasters are predicting approximately 10 centimetres of snowfall, with reduced visibility during periods of heavier snow. In locations near the St. Lawrence River Valley, snow may mix with ice pellets, creating potentially slippery conditions on roads and walkways.
Snow is expected to begin late this morning or early this afternoon and taper off by evening. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, turn on headlights, slow down, and maintain a safe following distance. Accumulating snow and icy patches may make driving and walking hazardous, so caution is strongly recommended.
As a result of the weather, school bus and special vehicle transportation has been cancelled in all counties served by the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario and the Upper Canada District School Board. However, all schools remain open. Residents are urged to monitor further updates from Environment Canada and plan travel carefully.
