A local resident has prompted Town of Gananoque Council to consider installing a pedestrian crossover at Stone Street North and North Street. The citizen-submitted proposal highlights safety concerns for school-aged children attending Linklater Public School, as well as adults and caregivers who frequently cross the intersection.
Council has directed staff to prepare a report on the feasibility and cost of a PXO-style crossover. The request comes amid high pedestrian traffic, particularly during peak hours from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and a 1.3-kilometre stretch of Stone Street North that currently lacks controlled crossings.
The proposed crossover would formalize a commonly used crossing point, improve driver awareness, and reduce the risk of accidents. Staff will review the safety and operational rationale and provide recommendations to Council on implementing this potential safety enhancement for the community.
