Officials say the new long-term care home in Athens is finished, but residents will have to wait a little longer before it opens.
The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville says construction of the G. Tackaberry and Family Long?Term Care Home was completed earlier this year. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in January to mark the milestone.
However, the home is not yet ready to welcome residents. The Counties say the facility must first receive approval from the Ontario Ministry of Long?Term Care before it can open.
Staff are continuing final preparations at the building, including readiness work, safety checks and quality reviews. Officials say the remaining provincial requirements are moving forward.
The Counties say they appreciate the strong interest from the community and thank residents for their patience while the final steps are completed.
Officials say they remain committed to opening the Athens home as soon as possible. More information will be shared once a confirmed move-in date is set.
A report on project delays will be presented to Counties council in April.
