Ferry service to Howe Island will face temporary interruptions as work continues on the rehabilitation of the county-operated ferry docks.
The second planned full closure will begin tonight (Monday, March 9th) at 10 p.m. and continue until Thursday, March 12 at 2 p.m. The closure is part of an ongoing project to rehabilitate ferry docks on both the island and mainland sides of the crossing.
During the shutdown, the township’s three-car ferry will remain in extended operation to help ensure residents can still travel on and off the island. A mainland detour route will also be in place and marked with signage.
Additional 64-hour closures are scheduled for April 6 to April 9 and April 13 to April 16. Work is expected to be completed by April 30, 2026.
The island-side parking area will remain closed during construction to keep access clear for equipment, the boat launch, and emergency infrastructure.
