Last week we told you about one of Gananoque’s own being nominated for the Community Role Model Award from the Police Association of Ontario. Sergeant Lynsay Dickson spoke about the award with us recently and told us how she felt when she knew she was nominated.
She says she does plenty of extra around the community on top of her regular duties, but wouldn’t do it any other way.
She says it’s nice to know that what she and her colleagues do on a daily basis are recognized by the community and to be nominated feels pretty special.
She talks about how she would feel if she is named as the recipient of this award.
She added that she appreciates the nomination, which was put in by fellow officers at the detachment. Since joining the Gananoque Police Service in 2009, Sgt. Dickson has served in numerous roles, including Sexual Assault Investigator, D.A.R.E. Instructor, YIPI Supervisor, and Sex Offender Registry Coordinator. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2023 and has spent more than 12 years as Community Liaison Officer, building deep connections across the town.
Known for her compassion, authenticity, and strong leadership, she has led numerous initiatives, including Special Olympics events, school breakfast programs, Coffee with a Cop, Pride activities, and community fundraisers. Her work extends beyond outreach, having assisted residents during emergencies, including a 2014 apartment fire and a 2025 life-saving wellbeing check.
Colleagues describe Sgt. Dickson as a steady, empathetic leader whose presence strengthens both the community and the police service.
