Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Gananoque and the surrounding area, warning of periods of freezing rain and heavy rainfall beginning tonight or Wednesday morning and continuing through Wednesday night. Ice accretion of 2 to 5 mm is possible, along with rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm.
A series of low-pressure systems moving across southern Ontario is expected to bring fluctuating precipitation as temperatures hover near the freezing mark. This could result in alternating rain and freezing rain, creating slippery conditions on roads, sidewalks, and other surfaces. Ice accumulation may cause tree branches to break, potentially leading to power outages, while heavy rainfall could cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Officials are advising residents to stay alert to changing conditions and prepare for possible travel disruptions. Freezing rain or rainfall warnings may be issued as the event draws nearer, and safety precautions should be taken.
