The recent closure of the Beer Store location in Gananoque has made redemptions difficult. Gananoque Mayor John Beddows says without a place to redeem empties, it is a concern for the community.
Beddows says this is a service he’s looking to bring back to the Town of Gananoque.
Many have looked to the old Beer Store location as a possible place for a redemption centre, however it is being repurposed as a pet pharmacy and work is underway currently.
With a closer place to return empties, things like bottle and can drives, which were popular in the area, return to help local sports teams and organizations raise much needed funds.
Beddows adds that he’s hoping for a solution to make redeeming empties easier for local residents and businesses.
