The Gananoque Police Service is warning residents about a scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming recipients have unpaid traffic or speed camera tickets. The messages urge individuals to click a link and make a payment.
Police stress these texts are not legitimate and advise residents not to click any links or share personal or financial information. Authorities note that neither local police nor the Ministry of Transportation request fine payments through text messages.
Anyone unsure about outstanding tickets is encouraged to contact the Provincial Offences Office in Brockville directly.
Police are asking residents to remain vigilant and share the warning with others to help prevent more people from falling victim to the scam.
